This Irish trans woman came out to her sister and her reaction may make you cry

:’)

COMING OUT as gay, bisexual or transgender is no easy thing to do – but many people are lucky to have family and friends who are more than willing accept the news.

Irish trans woman Aoife Martin is one such person – yesterday, she made the brave step of coming out to her sister, and shared the lovely messages of support she got from her on Twitter.

They might just make you well up:

Hello Aoife. Welcome to the world. No more hiding.

Martin told DailyEdge.ie that she came out to close friends on Twitter last year, and has been “building momentum” since then.

“I came out to my GP and have been seeing a counsellor for around ten months or so,” she said.

I always knew I’d come out to my sister but it was just a matter of when. And yesterday, I finally plucked up the courage. I wrote her a long email and direct messaged her to let her know it was on its way so as she wouldn’t be too shocked.
As you can see from her response, I needn’t have worried. The reason I decided to share was that maybe, just maybe, it might help someone else coming along behind me. Someone who is totally unsure of themselves. It’s nice to know that there are accepting and loving people in this world.

It is indeed. Congratulations Aoife!
